Wednesday 13th May

Now the earth was formless and empty,

darkness was over the surface of the deep,

and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said ‘let there be light,’

and there was light. Genesis 1:2-3

Our Father,

Thank you that darkness and light are all the same to you

and that your word brings order out of our chaos.

We pray for your light, your inspiration, your creativity:

for scientists searching for a vaccine and a cure,

for researchers working to identify the different strains

and for engineers fashioning new devices to give oxygen to patients.

On this day when some people are returning to work,

please shine your light in the darkness of their fears

and guide employers as they plan safe working spaces

in factories, offices and construction sites.

We pray for renewed friendships between colleagues

and a caring environment where they can be open and honest -

even at a two meter distance.

We bring the darkness of all our ‘unknowns’ before you Lord,

be the light for our path into the future.
